Happy New Year travellers! Do you want to discover the world’s best destinations this year? But before you pack your luggage, let me give you some travel tips for 2010.

Last year, the National Geographic named the Philippines as one of the 25 Best New Travel Destinations in the World for 2010. Why did they choose the Philippines to be on the list? They say it’s because of the country’s “ancient cultures, structures and biodiversity” and the magnificent islands here plus some of the most amazing reefs in the world.

I guess it’s true. Before you set foot on a foreign land, why not conquer your own country first? There’s a lot more for Filipinos to discover in their homeland. If foreign visitors could spend bucks and days roaming around the Philippines and bring home with them the experience that’s truly Pinoy, as Filipinos we should be proud we belong here. Right?

How to do this? Get a list of the Philippine festivals and mark them on your calendar. If you have a relative who’s coming home from abroad, volunteer yourself as their official tour guide. To do that, of course you must know better about the festival, the destination (where to stay, where to dine), and the pasalubong centers.
